Day 33 - 35 - Benson, AZ

Day 1 - Traveling to Arizona

Some beautiful scenery along the way

As we got closer to Benson - we passed through a beautiful granite rock area.
Reminded me of Prescott.

Our RV Park in Benson

Cactus everywhere!

This goose was extra friendly

Day 2 - Visiting Tombstone

Sarsaparilla  - like a cream soda and root beer combined.

Gunfight reenactments all over town

All of the towns people are dressed in authentic western wear

All the homes and businesses are original...
and most of them look like it to!

The most famous gun fight in western history

The surrounding area is so pretty

Day 3 - Kartchner Caverns

An Arizona State Park.
One of my favorite places on this trip.

The gardens at the caverns

The Kartchners - the owners of the property where the caverns were found

The mountains in the background house the caverns!

Kartchner Caverns
The history - in November of 1974, two young "cavers" found this cave by crawling down a sink hole.  They continued to explore the cave until they realized that their find was an absolute gem!  They were so determined to keep this cave pristine that they didn't even tell the property owners until 1978.  Then in 1984, they approached the Arizona Park system and it became a state park.  Even today the caverns are so carefully monitored.  As a visitor to the cavern, you are not allowed to take in any personal items...meaning no purse, no cell phone, etc., etc.
So I had to download some pictures from the internet that show the beauty of the caverns!
