Day 36 - 37 - Tucson

Day 1 - Tucson - visit to the Titan Missile site

The 24 hour clock

These heavy duty!!! springs were everywhere to keep the facility safe in case of attack

Control panel - the launch took place from here.  Luckily it never happened!

The Titan Missile - aimed for ??
They have tried to keep everything just as it was in the 60's

We saw the missile from inside and then from the top looking down!

The 60's and now

More cactus
This barrel cactus has fruit - looks like small pineapples

The terrane around Tucson

On the road back to our RV resort, we saw this mission from the highway. Had to stop.

The drive back to our RV resort
We pass Davis Monthan Air Force base
Thousands of moth ball planes!

Day 2 - Pima Air Museum

Tom really wanted to visit Davis Monthan Air Force Base to see the "moth ball" planes but
I found out (too late) that each visitor has to fill out papers and there is a 10-day background check they has to be done before you can take the tour.
So we visited the Pima Air Museum instead.

Tom said this was like the fire truck that he drove in the Air Force Fire Dept

This is what the Wright Brothers flew - we've come along way since then

And this was my favorite of the whole day!!

Many airplanes inside the hangers and lots more outside!

This was the B-17 Building
Tom's Dad flew in the B-17 and the B-24

This painting on the wall showed the inside of the B-17
Talk about cramped quarters!

Sal was a "tail gunner" - shooting from the back of the plane.
I think we forget what these young men sacrificed for our freedome!

Ok - this was definitely the weirdest plane of the day

This was a B-24

Someone has some fun with the paint job on these planes - maybe Krista was there!
